Esports at the Commonwealth Games

Great News for Esports in the UK with Commonwealth Games Trial 2022

It’s an exciting year for Esports! 2022 marks the arrival of the Commonwealth Esports Championships on 6th and 7th August in Birmingham. This trial sees gamers competing in three areas, Rocket League, eFootball and Dota 2.

All home nations have entered both open and women’s teams into the championships to compete alongside 24 other nations with Esports teams. It’s becoming very likely that Esports will be joining the full medal programme from 2026.

This is an excellent example of long-established organisations embracing changes to sport and according to the CGF Chief Executive, Katie Sadleir, shows young people’s interests are being accounted for at the Commonwealth Games.

There’s been plenty of discussion as to whether Esports becoming part of the Commonwealth Games schedule is a good or bad thing but at Kettering Conference Centre we support the increasing interest by large associations in Esports. We regularly work with event organiser EPIC.LAN to hold large Esports tournaments in our venue which are excellent for all involved.

Keep your eyes peeled for an interview with Jon from EPIC.LAN.

Esports is a worldwide phenomenon that is growing rapidly and becoming much more mainstream. We’re here to support gaming organisers in the UK with a venue equipped to handle large national, regional and hybrid gaming events.
